Over the past few weeks, hundreds of NFL players have taken a knee during the national anthem to protest against racial inequality and President Donald Trump. Now, this has come back to haunt the league as a whole in a huge way.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Papa John’s, a top NFL advertiser, just informed the NFL that their sales are down during games. This is because Americans would rather turn off their televisions then watch millionaire NFL players disrespect our flag and our anthem.

This comes as a growing number of Americans are joining an official boycott of the NFL until these protests stop. Conservative group Main Street Patriots is organizing a boycott of the NFL on Veteran’s Day weekend in response to the kneeling protests. The boycott is being put together to send a message about the importance of standing and saluting during the playing of the national anthem at NFL football games.

“I have watched professional football since the time there were two separate leagues – AFL and NFL in the late 60’s,” Debbie Dooley, co-founder of the group, told reporters. “Sports has always been an arena where we are united in support of our favorite teams.”

“We are not Democrats or Republicans, we are simply fans,” Dooley said. She went on to say that the NFL players are “seeking to change that by attempting to shove their political views down the throats of fans.”

“I urge patriotic Americans to exercise their First Amendment rights and boycott the NFL and their sponsors,” Dooley concluded.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell just said in a statement that he wants players to stand for the anthem.

“Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the National Anthem,” Goodell said. “It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us. We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues. We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.”

Unfortunately, however, he later changed his tune by saying that the NFL will not punish players who kneel. This means that NFL ratings will likely continue to plummet, as nobocdy wants to see our flag disrespected in this way. What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
